Image, video and audio formats
An extension identifies the container. Codecs, resolution and duration also affect compatibility and file size.
Containers and codecs
MP4 and WebM hold video, audio and metadata. A codec compresses and decodes the actual content, so two MP4 files may use different codecs. Morfliq outputs H.264 video and AAC audio in MP4 files.

MP4 for compatibility
H.264 with AAC is widely used for sharing and editing. Conversion re-encodes the content rather than simply renaming the extension, so it takes time and may change quality.
GIF for short loops
GIF has no audio and uses a palette of up to 256 colors per frame. Color-rich footage may show banding. GIF often takes more space than an MP4 of the same duration; keep clips short and reduce resolution and frame rate.
MP3 for audio only
Use MP3 to keep speech or music from a video that contains audio. It uses lossy compression. Increasing the bitrate cannot recover detail already lost in the source. Convert only content you have permission to use.
JPG, PNG and WebP
JPG suits photos but does not support transparency. Transparent pixels are filled with white. PNG preserves transparency and is lossless. WebP supports transparency with adjustable lossy quality in this tool.
Use still images of up to 200MB and 40 megapixels. Animated PNG/WebP, GIF, HEIC and AVIF inputs are unsupported. Original EXIF and location metadata are not retained.
Resolution versus quality
Resolution controls pixel dimensions; quality controls compression. Reducing height to 480p saves detail, processing work and often file size. Original resolution and high quality may produce a larger file.
Why a file can fail
Damaged files, encrypted or DRM-protected media and codecs not included in the engine cannot be processed. Renaming the extension will not fix a codec problem. If possible, export a standard MP4 from the original app.
